Netizens debate aespa's "Supernova" and ILLIT's "Magnetic" battling it out for 'Song of the Year'

Netizens are buzzing about which song might take home one of the biggest awards of the year, 'Song of the Year.'

A recent news article sparked debate on whether aespa's "Supernova" or ILLIT's "Magnetic" will likely be contenders for the prestigious title. Both the article and netizens compared the two songs, each making a case for their pick as the top song of the year.

Adding to the excitement, both groups have announced comebacks around the same time, fueling anticipation for a potential battle of future releases.

Since their debut with "Black Mamba," aespa has delivered hit after hit, including "Next Level," "Savage," "Spicy," and "Drama." Their first full-length album 'Armageddon,' released last May, featured the title track "Supernova," which made a significant impact on the public.

"Supernova" set a new record on MelOn, Korea’s largest music platform, for holding the No. 1 spot for the longest time in the platform’s 20-year history. It also topped other major domestic music sites upon release, cementing itself as a "super hit song" for aespa.

Meanwhile, ILLIT garnered significant attention right from their debut with the album 'Super Real Me' in March. Their title track "Magnetic" captured the public's attention with its infectious energy and catchy hook. Even six months later, "Magnetic" continues to rank high on major domestic charts, maintaining its long-lasting popularity.

"Magnetic" also became the first K-pop debut song to enter the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 (debuting at No. 91 on April 20) and the UK Official Singles Top 100 (entering at No. 80 on April 5). It also achieved 12 wins across major music broadcast shows in Korea, reflecting the immense love it's received.

With both aespa and ILLIT establishing themselves as "digital streaming powerhouses" through their previous releases, attention is now on the constructive competition between these two groups.

On a community forum, netizens shared their reactions:

"The whole online community is going to be exhausted. I’m expecting a crazy party of nonsense."

"Just one song and they're calling the group a digital powerhouse?"

"'Supernova' was a massive hit, but suddenly they’re talking about 'Magnetic'?"

"Wow, the media play is going to be dizzying with their comebacks tomorrow..."

"I just hope both do well."

"Since Rosé has released her song unexpectedly, it seems like it will be tough for both of them."
