Comedian Lee Soo Geun unknowingly lent money to fellow comedian Lee Jin Ho, unaware of his illegal gambling debt.
It was recently revealed that comedian Lee Soo Geun lent a large sum of money to his fellow comedian Lee Jin Ho, who is also a cast member on JTBC’s Knowing Bros, without knowing that Lee Jin Ho was in debt due to illegal gambling.
On October 15th KST, a YouTube channel disclosed that Lee Soo Geun had trusted his junior and lent him money. According to the YouTuber, “Comedian Lee Jin Ho lied about his mother being ill to borrow money. Lee Soo Geun, whose wife has been battling illness for a long time, actively helped Lee Jin Ho. He lent him 50 million KRW for medical expenses, which Lee Jin Ho later repaid. Lee Soo Geun even paid for Lee Jin Ho’s rent. It was only later that he discovered the debt was due to illegal gambling, which left him in shock.”
The story of another celebrity, referred to as “C,” who lent Lee Jin Ho a large sum of money, also came to light.
The YouTuber stated, “Celebrity C, although not particularly close to Lee Jin Ho, thought he must be in a desperate situation if he had come to him, so he lent him 500 million KRW. C even offered encouragement, saying he hoped Lee Jin Ho could use the money to pay off his debt and focus on his broadcasting activities. For C, 500 million KRW was a significant sum. He was deeply shocked when he later learned that the debt was from gambling. Yet, he never once made a call demanding repayment. He expressed that he was heartbroken, stating that he had lent the money out of goodwill and did not wish for this matter to become public.”
On October 14th KST, Lee Jin Ho admitted through his social media that he had started playing games on an illegal online gambling site in 2020 due to an unexpected opportunity and eventually found himself overwhelmed by debt.
In response, the police announced that they would review the complaint submitted regarding Lee Jin Ho’s admission of illegal online gambling and decide whether to formally investigate the matter.
