Actor Kwak Do Won, who halted his activities following a drunk driving incident, will not be participating in the promotional events for the film 'The Firefighters'.
The film, which recently confirmed its release schedule, announced that Kwak Do Won would not be involved in its promotional activities. This decision was made after considering the potential impact on the movie and the public’s reaction.
The Firefighters is a story centered around the real-life 2001 Hongje-dong fire disaster, depicting the struggles of firefighters who, despite difficult conditions, were committed to extinguishing the fire and rescuing all trapped individuals. The film stars Joo Won, Kwak Do Won, and Yoo Jae Myung.
The movie completed filming in 2020 and was set for release. However, the film’s debut was delayed after Kwak Do Won’s 2022 drunk driving controversy. Now, after about four years, the production team has decided to move forward with the release, demonstrating their determination to minimize any negative effects during the promotional phase.
Since Kwak Do Won plays a leading role, completely cutting his scenes was not feasible. The production team has instead opted to reduce his screen time through partial edits.
Recently, Kwak Do Won also parted ways with Mada Entertainment, his agency of five years, following the expiration of his contract.
