There was confusion on August 22 when it was reported that BTS member Suga, who is under investigation for drunk driving, was supposed to attend his first police questioning. However, this turned out to be false, leading to chaos on the scene.
Earlier today, it was rumored that Suga would appear at the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul for questioning regarding his drunk driving charges. Hundreds of reporters, who had arrived early, were prepared and waiting in an orderly manner.
The police initially planned for this questioning to be private, but news about Suga’s appearance leaked late last night, causing a large number of reporters to gather at the scene early in the morning.
One of the key questions was whether Suga would have to face the media at a photo line. A police official mentioned that the process would follow the same rules as for any other suspect. However, since Yongsan Police Station doesn’t have an underground parking lot and its entrance is narrow, it seemed likely that Suga would have to pass by the reporters.
However, as word spread among the gathered reporters that HYBE (Suga’s agency) had stated he wouldn’t be showing up today, the atmosphere turned chaotic. Some reporters left quickly, while others, not trusting HYBE's information, stayed on, keeping the situation hectic.
To recap, back on August 6, Suga was found drunk and driving a foldable electric scooter in Hannam-dong, Yongsan, Seoul. He fell over by himself and was discovered by a patrolling police officer, who conducted a breathalyzer test. As a result, Yongsan Police Station booked him for violating traffic laws and began their investigation.
Suga has been serving as a social service worker since last September and is scheduled to complete his service in June 2025.
