(G)I-DLE's Soyeon addresses contract renewal rumors.
Soyeon of (G)I-DLE has directly addressed the rumors surrounding her contract renewal with her agency.
On August 6 KST, Soyeon shared a long statement on her social media account. She began by saying, "My first concern is always how to make people happy, and my second concern is how to make my team happier." She continued, "Sometimes this leads to moments that may seem too provocative or works that do not receive positive reactions."
She clarified, "However, I have never lied, intended to harm anyone, or done anything that would prick my conscience. The performance in question did not involve any lies, nor did I hide it from the company."
Soyeon went on to express her current feelings, stating, "Despite the many things we've been through together over the past 10 years, I don’t harbor negative feelings towards the company just by reading articles in the media."
She added, "However, this has been an opportunity to once again feel the shortcomings in how our company handles certain situations. I will also do my best so that we can grow together, and I hope any worries or uncomfortable feelings will subside."
Finally, Soyeon expressed her gratitude to fans, saying, "I’ll work harder so you don’t have to worry. I’m always sorry, thankful, and I love you, Neverland((G)I-DLE's fandom name)."
Previously, Soyeon had been rumored to be leaving her agency, CUBE Entertainment. During a performance on August 3-4 KST, Soyeon performed "Is this bad b****** number?" and rapped lines like "Contract ends in November. Who can stop me?" and "Do I have to care about this sh*t?" This led to speculation that she was criticizing her agency and might be planning to leave.
In response to the controversy, CUBE Entertainment stated that the members' contract renewal is scheduled for next year, and that Soyeon's lyrics were simply part of the performance. However, debates among netizens about the future of (G)I-DLE continue.
Soyeon's Full Statement:
My first concern is always how to make people happy, and my second concern is how to make my team happier.
Sometimes this leads to moments that may seem too provocative or works that do not receive positive reactions, but I never lie, intend to harm anyone, or do anything that would prick my conscience.
The performance in question did not involve any lies, nor did I hide it from the company. We rehearsed it dozens of times in front of everyone, and it was a stage we created together.
Despite the many things we've been through together over the past 10 years, I don’t harbor negative feelings towards the company just by reading articles in the media. Words can easily be misunderstood, so they may differ from their intent. However, this has been an opportunity to once again feel the shortcomings in how our company handles certain situations. I will also do my best so that we can grow together, and I hope any worries or uncomfortable feelings will subside.
I’ll work harder so you don’t have to worry. I’m always sorry, thankful, and I love you, Neverland.
