G-Dragon's JusPeace foundation launches, focusing on art, justice, and social contribution

AKP STAFF

On August 5th, the JusPeace Foundation, established by G-Dragon (real name Kwon Ji-yong), will hold its inaugural event, following its announcement at a press conference in December of last year.

Galaxy Corporation, G-Dragon's agency, stated, "After announcing the foundation’s establishment at a press conference last December, we have spent the past months preparing through advisory meetings, expert consultations, and discussions in various fields. The inaugural event for the JusPeace Foundation, where G-Dragon will serve as the honorary chairman, will be held on the 5th."

The event is expected to be attended by around 50 experts from various fields who will support the foundation's public welfare initiatives, fundraising efforts, and external promotions.

The JusPeace Foundation has carefully considered focusing on specific areas of public welfare that are essential yet often overlooked by other organizations.

The foundation aims to contribute to the development of a copyright culture that nurtures creative talents while also promoting social contributions through artistic talent. Planned initiatives include the public use of copyrights, support for creative artists, assistance for creators engaging in public service activities, promoting mental health through art therapy, and providing musical therapy for youth struggling with drug addiction.

These presentations on the development of copyright culture and the promotion of peace through art reflect the foundation’s mission.

G-Dragon, who will serve as the foundation's honorary chairman, explained his motivation for establishing the foundation: "An artist is not just someone who creates art, but someone who can bring happiness and peace to the world. I have always believed that beyond spreading love and peace through music, one can help even more people by engaging in social service or establishing a public welfare foundation."

Since the announcement of the foundation at the press conference last December, many had suggested naming it the "Kwon Ji-yong Foundation" or "G-Dragon Foundation."

However, G-Dragon himself chose the name JusPeace, combining the words "Justice" and "Peace."

G-Dragon explained, "Justice is not just about grand ideas; it can be about correcting wrongs and misunderstandings in everyday life. There are many people who face injustice, and when they don't have someone to believe in them and support them, it becomes even harder for them. I hope for a world where people can believe in and share love with each other without prejudice, and that is what I aspire to as a musician and artist."

Choi Yong-ho, the foundation's chairman and Chief Happiness Officer (CHO) of Galaxy Corporation, stated,

"It is important to express the mental health issues of young people and harness the healing power of art. In line with G-Dragon's vision, we will initiate unique social contributions, starting with donations of copyright earnings."
