EXID marked their 12th anniversary on August 13 KST, with members celebrating the milestone on social media. However, Hani remained silent, likely due to the ongoing controversy surrounding her fiancé, Yang Jae Woong.
While members like Solji, Jeonghwa, Hyerin, and LE shared heartfelt messages with their fans, expressing gratitude and love for their loyal fanbase known as LEGO, Hani chose not to make any public statements.
The silence from Hani comes in the wake of a shocking incident involving Yang Jae Woong, the head of a clinic where a patient, referred to as A, tragically died. A was admitted to Yang’s clinic for treatment of addiction to the appetite suppressant Diatamin but passed away 17 days later. An autopsy by the National Forensic Service pointed to bowel obstruction as the likely cause of death.
The family of the deceased has accused the clinic staff of negligence, alleging that despite A's distress and pleas for help, he was restrained and sedated instead of being given proper medical care. CCTV footage released by the family appears to support these claims, showing A exhibiting severe symptoms while restrained, with little action taken by the medical staff.
The family has filed criminal charges against the clinic staff for negligent homicide and lodged a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK), which has initiated an investigation. The police have also launched a probe into potential violations of medical law by the clinic.
Further fueling public outrage is the revelation that sedatives and tranquilizers administered to A were found in near-lethal concentrations during the autopsy. The medical records indicate that A had difficulty adapting to the unfamiliar hospital environment, yet was given excessive doses of psychoactive medications.
Following the incident, Hani has faced backlash, with many criticizing her and Yang for announcing their upcoming September wedding just four days after the patient's death. As a result, Hani has largely withdrawn from public activities and has maintained a low profile since the news broke.
