BTS's RM recently was criticized after posting an Instagram story following the DUI incident involving fellow member SUGA. Some have criticized RM for being seemingly insensitive, but others have come to his defense.
On August 7, it was revealed that SUGA had been booked for violating the Road Traffic Act due to drunk driving. The news shocked many fans and garnered widespread media attention. Shortly after the news broke, RM posted an Instagram story, which some interpreted as him ignoring or downplaying the severity of the situation.
However, many fans and netizens defended RM, arguing that he likely was unaware of SUGA's incident due to his current military service.
Korean netizens commented:
"He probably didn't know what was going on."
"Even in the military, this news was everywhere. As soon as he got his phone, wouldn't the company and the members have informed him? He has time for social media but no time to hear about a member's DUI?"
"He never really cared and always posted whatever he wanted."
"Why at this timing, of all times?"
"He might not have known because he's in the military. He quickly deleted the post."
"He might not know. Why are people commenting like this?"
"He might not know the situation. Let's not criticize him for this."
"Completely clueless."
"He’s a soldier but he posts on Instagram frequently."
"Did RM do something wrong? Why are people reacting like this to him? It’s absurd. All the other members are diligently completing their military service or have already finished. If you want to criticize, direct it at the person who caused the incident."
"He's a soldier, so he probably posted without knowing and deleted it as soon as he was informed."
"He already deleted it quickly. He probably didn't know since he's in the military."
"He's a soldier, so he might have checked late. It says above that he deleted it."
"He deleted it quickly. He must have just heard the news. Don't blame an innocent person."
