On June 5 EST, 'World of Reel' reported that the delay of director Bong Joon Ho's new Hollywood film 'Mickey 17' "has to do with Bong Joon Ho not getting final cut".
The upcoming sci-fi film, which Bong Joon Ho said was completed in November of 2023, has been delayed until January, 2025. According to sources, the delay was caused by a dispute between Bong Joon Ho and the production company, Warner Bros., over the final cut on the film. Warner Bros. wishes to "release a more accessible version", but Bong Joon Ho seemingly disagrees.
The news is currently upsetting movie fans around the globe, as many hope to see Bong Joon Ho's vision of 'Mickey 17' in its complete form.
Many Korean netizens also weighed in after coming across the news. Some said,
"Never trust your own senses. Only trust Bong Joon Ho's."
"I guarantee you. Bong Joon Ho productions are all about detail. Every cut was calculated. If you're trying to edit it, it's basically telling him to throw away his finished piece."
"It's really not a good idea to meddle with Bong Joon Ho's films. That man has it all figured out in his head."
"In the first place, Bong Joon Ho films aren't meant to be for everyone?"
"It's Bong Joon Ho... Just let him do his thing."
"Hope they're not treating him like this because he's a foreigner."
Meanwhile, 'Mickey 17' marks Bong Joon Ho's return to the screens for the first time since 'Parasite' (2019). The film stars Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, and more.
