BoA recently shook her fans when she mentioned her retirement on her Instagram story.
On April 6, BoA posted the message, "I guess it's okay to 'finish a workout' after my contract ends," and then clarified that "finish a workout" was a typo for "retirement," fuelling retirement rumors. After seeing BoA's message, many fans were concerned that the singer was already planning her retirement.
A day after her initial message, BoA posted a follow-up message reassuring fans that she will not be retiring any time soon. She explained, "My contract doesn't end till December 31, 2025. Until then, I will happily give my all as singer BoA. Don't worry, my dear Jumping BoAs (BoA's fandom)."
Before her latest post about her retirement, BoA also garnered attention for her clapback at her haters.
She wrote, "People criticize me when I maintain myself saying I maintain myself. They criticize me when I don't maintain myself. People tell me I lost too much weight so I should gain some. But when I gain weight, they then call me a pig... I don't know what you guys look like but don't waste your life like that. Sorry, but I'm BoA."
With her continuing active presence on social media, one netizen pointed out that BoA seems to have a similar personality as actress Han So Hee, who had been causing abuzz on social media with a series of Instagram posts.
The netizen explained, "People who know, know her Instagram story activities lately... Hasn't she (BoA) learned anything after seeing Han So Hee? lol I'm sorry I brought Han So Hee into this when everything finished but they're so alike: The type the company can't control. I guess the company staff can't do anything thing she's a director of the company."
The netizen continued, "Sigh... but BoA's 29 years old... It looks more strange... Cringeworthy... Anyone can see she seems sensitive to attention... The message she posted sounds like she's saying 'if you guys keep this up, I'll leave this industry!' 'You won't be able to see me anymore!'
This netizen also criticized that BoA is creating the buzz online on her own and doing it to gain more attention on social media.
However, other netizens have been divided over this matter as some criticized the poster. They commented, "I find it more interesting how the poster wants to sound cool and sound like they don't care about celebrities but they are more interested in them than anyone else. Ordinary people don't write posts about this online like this and they don't try to analyze every action celebrities take," "It's like what BoA said. Just mind your own face," "Just leave her alone," "I just feel bad for her," and "Why are you even comparing the two? They're not even on the same level."
On the other hand, netizens commented, "I never hated BoA but then people make me feel uncomfortable when they try to make BoA sound like a legend. Because she's just a solo artist. She doesn't have the star power like Lee Hyori or anything. She only releases songs every three to four years. I don't think she's on par to be at the level like Yang Hyun Suk, J.Y. Park, and then BoA," "I hope she retires. It's not like anyone would stop her. Many idols are promoted as solo artists so she's missing out if she retires if anything. She's almost 40 but she still has the mind of a 15-year-old," "I think the weaker your psyche is, the more you're hung up on social media. She needs to take a break from social media," and "Social media presence is what BoA and Han So Hee have in common."
This whole article based on one comment is so weird. There is nothing wrong with her posts. And it’s not like fans don’t ask celebs when their contracts end and what they plan on doing after. She is free to communicate what she wants and how she feels
