There has been much commotion in the Korean entertainment industry lately. One of the most recent controversies involves the male idol group OMEGA X as the former CEO, Kang Seong Hee, of their previous agency, Spire Entertainment, claimed that one of the members had sexually assaulted her.
The controversy has continued over several months and continued to become heightened as Spire Entertainment's current CEO, Hwang Sung Woo, also the husband of the former CEO Kang Seong Hee, held a press conference. During the press conference, he claimed that OMEGA X's Hwichan sexually assaulted his wife, Kang Seong Hee, and released CCTV footage from 2022. Hwang Sung Woo alleged that Hwichan molested and forced himself onto Kang Seong Hee even though she tried to stop him.
However, OMEGA X's current label, IPQ, denied the allegations and stated that the members were forced to show affection toward former CEO Kang Seong Hee. They stated, "The footage of Hwichan's sexual harassment of CEO Kang Seong Hee is all fake." IPQ continued, "We asked Spire Entertainment to release the full video... Kang Seong Hee's demands for affection towards the members were non-stop. As revealed a year ago, there were clear instances of sexual misconduct along with verbal abuse, physical violence, and harassment."
Following the latest development of the controversy and the CCTV footage revealed, many Korean netizens gathered in a popular online community to share their thoughts on this matter. Many Korean netizens do not believe that OMEGA X's Hwichan had forced himself onto Kang Seong Hee. Many cited the surveillance footage as support for their claims, as netizens pointed out that Kang Seong Hee did not seem like she was trying to stop him from touching her.
Korean netizens commented, "They need to release the full video because she clearly doesn't seem like she's stopping him at all. In fact. It looks like the opposite. Looks like she's making him touch her," "I feel bad for the OMEGA X members. They are experiencing the abyss of the entertainment world," "I'm trying to be objective when I watch the video but it doesn't seem forced at all. Also, it doesn't make sense for the former CEO, who holds the dominant position in society, to be coerced by an idol, who is in a lower position, into being sexually assaulted. Also, she looks like she is in a clear state of mind and wasn't incapacitated or anything," "How old is that lady?" "I feel so bad for that idol," "I'm not sure if this is even a sexual assault case because that CEO abused her power on the members before. So it's highly likely she told him to touch her," "Even from the video, it's not sexual assault," "This is so disturbing. I feel so bad for the members," "That does not look like he forced himself onto her," and "I can't trust that Spire company or anything they say, so... "
I never thought the day when I'd agree with k-netz would come, but it did.
