A video has been circulating online that has triggered an outraged response throughout South Korea.
The video shows a high school student physically attacking a security guard in his 60s. The Nambu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province is currently questioning the suspected teenage attacker. According to reports, the security guard scolded the suspect and his friends for causing a disturbance at a commercial complex. This likely led to the assault.
Reports also stated that the suspect hit the guard multiple times and tackled him to the ground. The teen punched the man so hard, that he lost conciousness.
The authorities initially did not investigate since the victim did not want to press charges. In South Korea, assault is a crime that can't be punished without a victim's complaint, so the police had no choice but to not continue forward.
However, the attack was filmed by the suspect's friend and posted online, triggering an outraged response across the country. The police were forced to take up the case again, choosing to investigate on charges of inflicting bodily harm on another person, which is a crime that does not require the victim to press charges.
The friend who posted the video claimed that the attack was a "sparring match" and that the suspect asked them to record it.
The suspect reportedly said that he regretted his actions during questioning. Officials are investigating both the attack and whether the video was filmed with the consent of both parties.
Sk Police are ridiculous, nothing done about recorded assault but false allegations they go crazy for
