Psy has achieved a monumental milestone as his iconic "Gangnam Style" music video surpassed 5 Billion views on YouTube as of 1 PM KST on December 30. This achievement marks the first time a K-pop music video has ever reached such a figure. This milestone also comes a day before Psy's 46th birthday on December 31.
Reflecting on this achievement, Psy shared his joy, "On the day we first hit 10 million views, my colleagues and I celebrated, dreaming of 50 million views. I am a hundred times happier than that dream."
"Gangnam Style" is the lead single from Psy's sixth studio album, 'Psy 6 (Six Rules), Part 1,' which was released in July 2012. Despite being over a decade old, the song continues to be popular. It's not just a hit but a global phenomenon, earning Psy a prestigious spot as the first K-pop artist to make it on the main U.S. Billboard chart. The song maintained the 2nd spot on the 'Hot 100' for seven consecutive weeks and was recognized as a mega-hit worldwide.
Additionally, "Gangnam Style" was the first YouTube video to break 1 Billion views.
Psy's journey on YouTube doesn't end here. His other hits like "GENTLEMAN" boast 1.5 billion views, "Oppa Is Just My Style" exceeds 820 million views, and other significant counts include "Hangover" (360 million), "Daddy" (700 million), "New Face" (290 million), and "I Luv It" (130 million). Currently, the second most-viewed K-pop music video on YouTube is BLACKPINK's "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du," which has 2.15 Billion views.
Recently, Psy concluded his "All Night Stand 2023" concert series from December 22nd to the 24th and plans to continue delivering joy to fans worldwide with various activities next year.
