aespa's story about their close relationship with NMIXX member Sullyoon has sparked a bit of a debate.
In a recent behind the scenes video, the members of aespa received 'Pepero Day' gifts from Sullyoon, who is currently the female MC of MBC's 'Show! Music Core'.
While marveling over Sullyoon's cute gifts, Winter mentioned, "When I was a trainee, I really loved fried soboro. Sullyoon bought some all the way in Daejeon and gave some to us, so I was super happy."
Karina added on, "She left us a note about where she hid them." Winter recalled in agreement, "That's how we were able to eat them secretly." The two members then took the opportunity to thank Sullyoon for that time, sharing another cute anecdote from their trainee days.
Based on the story, some netizens concluded that Sullyoon must have also spent some time as a trainee at SM Entertainment.
However, in the past, Sullyoon has gone viral as an idol who passed the auditions for "the three major companies and who ultimately "chose JYP Entertainment". Some netizens believe that based on this story, Sullyoon would not have gone to SM at all, instead beginning her training at JYPE.
In response to the supposedly mismatched stories, some netizens said,
"No, Sullyoon was never an SM trainee. She passed all of the auditions and chose to go to JYP."
"But if Winter's story is true, it would only make sense that she was a trainee with [aespa]? Why are some people so in denial about that?"
"She actually trained at SM, then went to TS for a while before she moved to JYP."
"So SM wants to tell the story that trainees who didn't make it at their company go on to debut at other companies. But JYP wants to tell the story that it is the most preferred company because those who passed auditions for other companies still went to JYP."
"This [aespa] video confused me as well."
"Imagine the visuals if Sullyoon had debuted with aespa."
"Can Sullyoon clarify this once and for all, because I'm really curious."
What do you think of the debate?
Or maybe she just went to visit her other trainees friend in their company. It’s really not rocket science. She doesn’t have to be a trainee at sm to meet sm trainees
