Shinhwa member Minwoo recently opened up about a distressing incident from his past where he was manipulated and conned by someone he trusted. This revelation came to light during an episode of Channel A's show 'Best Friends Talkcumentary Table for 4' that aired on October 16.
In an eye-opening discussion, Minwoo shared that celebrities are more vulnerable to scams, usually not from complete strangers, but from close acquaintances who they unwaveringly trust. In his case, he experienced something more insidious than a financial loss. He described being emotionally manipulated through gaslighting.
According to Minwoo, the fraudster entered his life during a challenging period, pretending to offer support while artfully scheming against him. The scammer not only threatened his family but also aimed at destabilizing his work with Shinhwa.
While sharing this poignant memory, Minwoo noted, "My older sister was also acquainted with this person." His sister, Lee Young Mi, corroborated Minwoo's statement adding, "We've known each other for 20 years, and I found out about what happened to Minwoo two years after the incident had begun." She shared how the unscrupulous individual had used Minwoo's vulnerabilities against him, humiliating him mentally over a span of three years.
Clearly hurt by the traumatic experience, Minwoo expressed his regret and the adverse impact it had on his mental health. He said, "I couldn't breathe day after day. I went to a mental health clinic and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. I felt as if I was mentally held hostage, and it was as if I was living someone else's life, not mine."
