DAY6's Young K confessed that he never imagined that he would debut with a band while being a trainee at JYP Entertainment.
On October 3, Young K appeared as a special guest on the 82nd episode of KBS Kpop's YouTube show 'Lee Mu Jin Service.' On this day, Lee Mu Jin began talking about the topic by asking, "The band DAY6 you're in is the first band group of JYP. Did you know that you would eventually debut as the first band and start your trainee life?"
Young K responded, "Hmm, I definitely didn't. I thought I was going to dance or sing, obviously. But playing instruments, to be honest, when I started, that (being in a band) wasn't in the picture that I was drawing."
He continued to elaborate, "In my memory, there was an acrobatic lesson at that time. I was really bad at it. It was super scary that my feet were not on the ground. So, the leader of the recruiting team came to me and said, 'Younghyun, you're really not good enough at acrobatics. You must try harder.' And then what he said to me was for me felt like 'Am I not good enough? Am I going to go home soon?' So I put the mat on the floor in the dance practice room and practiced backflip for several hours every morning."
He added, "For about two weeks, I crashed to the floor with my head and neck. Then I succeeded finally."
Young K shared, "So I went to the recruiting team and proudly said, 'I have something to tell you!' I went there excited. He told me to go first. So I told him 'I completed the backflip.' I told him happily. He said 'congratulations but you can play the guitar, right?" and explained how he joined the band.
i remember him first talking about this and still sad laugh bc of it. he was so proud!! then the "youre gonna be in a band." he was and is a perfect fit for Day6 tho.
