The SBS investigative report program, 'Unanswered Questions,' became mired in a heated controversy after addressing the contentious issue surrounding the exclusive contract of the group FIFTY FIFTY.
After the episode covering FIFTY FIFTY aired on August 19, the viewer bulletin board was inundated with over 3,000 protest messages, prompting the production team to make the related videos set to private on their YouTube channel.
The episode that aired on August 19 delved into the ongoing controversy surrounding FIFTY FIFTY.
During the show, 'Unanswered Questions' production team unveiled interviews with individuals involved in the controversy, such as FIFTY FIFTY's family members, officials from the music industry, staff from the labels involved, and more.
The show shed light on the dispute between ATTRAKT and The Givers and claimed the FIFTY FIFTY members were caught in the crossfire. Additionally, the show highlighted the sacrifices made by the girl group. However, many netizens felt that 'Unanswered Questions' focused on the emotional aspects of the controversy and did not handle solid facts.
Additionally, viewers felt that the show was biased as it did not cover much information about the third company attempting to poach the girls and the issue of trademark rights.
Following the broadcast, the viewer bulletin board on SBS was flooded with protest messages. From August 19 until around 6 PM on August 21, over 3,075 protest messages inundated the bulletin board.
Moreover, viewers continued to send complaints to the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) as well. According to the KCSC, on August 21, a total of 175 complaints were received regarding the episode of 'Unanswered Questions' that aired on August 19.
The KCSC stated, "We are currently reviewing the contents" regarding the complaints about 'Unanswered Questions.' The complaints will be registered to the KCSC and will be transferred to the relevant department for review.
The broadcast episode of 'Unanswered Questions' dealing with the FIFTY FIFTY controversies will be reviewed under article 9 of the 'fairness' standard of the broadcast regulations.
The relevant regulations are: ▶Broadcasting must not distort the truth ▶Broadcasting must maintain fairness and balance ▶They must not give an advantage to a specific person or group or mislead the facts by using production technology or editing technology ▶ It should not mislead viewers by conveying one side's argument, and ▶ There should be no discrimination in programming (excluding religious broadcasts) in relation to gender, age, occupation, religion, creed, class, region, race, etc.
I don't know if this program had good research before but it's a shame that with this report it has lost all credibility with the viewers... A new success for 5050; They not only destroy themselves, but also others.
