The Korea Music Copyright Association will withhold all royalty payments for FIFTY FIFTY's 'Cupid' until copyright disputes are settled

AKP STAFF

The Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) has reached a decision to withhold all royalty payments for FIFTY FIFTY's hit song "Cupid" until disputes surrounding its copyright ownership are settled completely.

The KOMCA typically distributes domestic royalty payments quarterly. However, per regulations, the association can come to a decision to withhold payments in the case a song is embroiled in copyright issues.

Previously, FIFTY FIFTY's management label ATTRAKT filed a lawsuit against The Givers, the producing company currently owning the majority of copyright claims for "Cupid", for securing its copyrights through extortion. The Givers denied these accusations as false and claimed that producer Ahn Sung Il, chief producer of The Givers, signed a contract with the original producers of "Cupid" to obtain legal ownership of its copyrights.

However, on July 17 KST, media outlet 'Dispatch' raised the claim that Ahn Sung Il had forged the signatures of the original producers of "Cupid" in order to file for legal ownership of the song's copyrights, causing public shock.

I can't speak for the true intentions of the girls, but my goodness this has just turned so horribly for them, due to their own actions or lack thereof in some instances. Hindsight is 20/20: if they would have hired lawyers to correspond and mediate with ATTRAKT, it would have gained them the transparency they wanted and needed. Any lies or fabrications fed to them by the GIVERS might not have been immediately resolved, but huge holes in the stories Ahn Sung Il was likely telling them would have been revealed. It would have been messy, it would have most certainly been uncomfortable for them as he is the main person with whom they've worked- but their careers would have remained in tact. They would have gained sympathy and respect from the public for being caught in the middle of a fight between a conman and a businessman who was either too naive or unwilling to take the reins himself until he was overrun. Imagine watching all of this burn before them, and the sick realization of they parts they now understand that they both willingly as well as unwillingly played in their own demise. People talked that they would only have the revenue from Cupid after all this is over- I myself would be shaking with the thought that my one success may possibly be lost to me due to another person's lies and misdeeds. They've made their decisions, but that doesn't make the consequences any less tragic for them. Such a shame, the lot of them will learn the harsh lessons of greed once this is finished.

Common sense prevails! Good decision.
I'm just imagining Ahn Sung Il, The Givers and the parents of the girls losing their shit over this news😆
