Over the years of the ever-developing world of K-pop, there has been an abundant discovery of talented individuals who have entered the industry.
However, there are instances where the label or industry fails to utilize its resources to further promote these talented idols and fuel growth in popularity. This seems to be the case with JYP Entertainment's handling of the immensely talented members of ITZY and NMIXX, much to the dismay of both K-netizens and devoted fans.
ITZY, formed in 2019, made an explosive entrance with their debut single, "Dalla Dalla," instantly capturing the hearts of fans with their fierce energy and catchy tunes. There was much expectation for the group since ITZY was the first girl group JYP Entertainment launched after TWICE. Unfortunately, fans were unable to see ITZY in action as frequently as they had hoped for, with only one world tour under their belt.
Similarly, NMIXX, a rookie girl group that debuted in 2021, brought a fresh and distinctive vibe to the industry. With their diverse talents and unique personalities, they quickly gained attention from fans. However, supporters of NMIXX were left disappointed with the promotion concepts and songs released by the group. Many fans felt that these releases did not fully showcase the group's true potential and did not do justice to their talents.
Now, fans are taking to online communities to express their disappointment and dissatisfaction toward JYP Entertainment. One netizen expressed, "It's such a waste for ITZY. They all have so much individual talent and so much star power but the agency gathered these girls and isn't able to propel them probably." The netizen added, "The concept is not as good and is a replica over and over again. They're also making a comeback now but the teasers are being released around the same time as their junior group. Their hair makeup is so damn bad but they're able to cover that up since the members are so pretty."
The netizen also directed their dismay with NMIXX's promotion and pointed out the issues the rookie girl group faced. The netizen expressed, "Does that mean they treat NMIXX well? Everything sucks bad, starting with one member leaving and the choreography and outfits for the pre-release track being so below expectation."
The netizen added, "Does this mean they treat male idols better? Nope. They decided to have the Stray Kids concert in Japan during liberation day and during the Chuseok holiday. Are they even thinking? Are they even taking care of the members' mental and physical health?"
Other netizens agreed and joined the conversation by commenting, "I don't know about NMIXX but ITZY really is...a waste. Chaeryeong has talent and charm so she can be pushed to do variety shows, Ryujin and Yeji are already popular with female fans so they just need to continue their promotions, visual members are Yuna and Lia... This group definitely can make it bigger if the agency does a better job," "They never did a good job managing and taking care of the members, from Wonder Girls to 2PM," "I've lost the expectation of JYP Entertainment a long time ago. They don't know how to follow the trend and the concept look tacky," and "I think they are just not good an managing their artists in general."
Well itzy only had a year under their belts when covid hit, so only recently has a world tour been even a rational possibility. I agree that they could still do "more" with itzy, but they're still very successful and I like that they keep experimenting with their sound.
