TV personality Kim Gu Ra recently caused a stir when he disclosed the appearance fee demanded by an idol-turned-actor.
On June 2, Kim Gu Ra posted a new video on his YouTube channel, 'Gu Ra Cheol,' that has been garnering much attention. In his latest video, he emphasized that the film industry faces numerous challenges, with fewer people going to the movies and increasing costs.
Kim Gu Ra then proceeded to reveal that the salaries for actors have become exceptionally high. With astonishment, he shared his discovery of an idol-turned-actor who demanded a staggering 400 million KRW (307,000 USD) for appearances.
Though hesitant to mention the person's name, Kim Gu Ra confirmed that this information is accurate, attributing the exorbitant fee to the idol's extensive fan base and global popularity. He shared, "This is true. Either way, this idol has a lot of fans and they are a global idol with a lot of fans. That's how much these fees went up."
Further elaborating on the financial constraints of the film industry, Kim Gu Ra noted that even producing a single episode of a TV show has become prohibitively expensive. Presently, filming a variety show costs approximately 160 million KRW (122,836 USD) per episode, while filming in external film locations ranges from 130 to 140 million KRW (99,804 USD~107,482 USD) per episode.
Kim Gu Ra's claims about the idol-turned-actor have triggered a heated debate among netizens as they are speculating and attempting to find out who this individual is. They commented, "I guess you don't need to worry about the entertainment industry," "The top actors get 200 million KRW (153,500 USD) per episode, and this idol wants 400 million KRW (307,000 USD) per episode?," and "You can't deny the influence of the Hallyu wave I guess." Some netizens have even begun mentioning specific names as they seek to unravel the mystery surrounding the idol-turned-actor.
Maybe they didn't like the project so gave a really high fee as an easy way to turn it down without insulting the director by saying they thought it was crap.
