Choi Ye Na's music video for "Hate Rodrigo" has been mysteriously removed from YouTube

Amidst her comeback, Choi Ye Na has been in some hot water, receiving backlash for the title of her comeback track, "Hate Rodrigo."

When Choi Ye Na first unveiled the title of the track, netizens were confused and wondered if the title "Hate Rodrigo" was in reference to American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo. But when the K-pop singer revealed the music video teaser, it became clear she was blatantly naming the American artist.

Netizens expressed their discomfort with the provocative title of Choi Ye Na's comeback song and also criticized the K-pop idol for choosing a poor concept using the name of another artist, more so because the name was paired with a strongly negative word.

However, Choi Ye Na introduced her new music during her comeback showcase and personally explained why she named the track "Hate Rodrigo." She explained, "It's a song that expresses the very cute jealousy I feel for my role model, the person who I admire and respect. It's a song that expresses that cute jealousy through my own charms without any hate. The track is characterized by interesting lyrics and a rock melody. My best friend, (G)I-DLE's Yuqi is featured on the song so it's really, really special."

Nevertheless, netizens had mixed opinions with Choi Ye Na's new track, that contained heavy references to Olivia Rodrigo's music video scenes and her 'Sour' album cover photo. On top of that, many netizens expressed that if Choi Ye Na was intending to pay homage to Olivia Rodrigo, she did it in a distasteful manner.

With continued backlash from the public, Choi Ye Na's music video was mysteriously changed to a private video. Additionally, the hashtag usage of #Hate_Rodrigo was discontinued.

Korean netizens commented, "So people (in Korea) think 'Hate' just means 'Don't like' but it actually means to dislike extremely," "She was dumb for doing this," "Why did she choose this concept in the first place," "Yeah, I don't get why she used 'Hate' when all she's doing is copying Rodrigo," "So if an artist from another country released a track titled 'hate (Korean female idol)' that would be so rude too and we would curse at them too," "I like if she used 'love' rather than 'hate' then it would be cuter," "I can't believe no one stopped her from the planning stage of this concept," "It's more ridiculous that they took this long to take care of the problem when people were talking about it for a while now," and "It's her fault for not understanding the exact meaning of that strong word."

I knew this concept will comeback to bite them in the ass to be clear I don’t blame yena at all i know she had good intentions but yuehua really thought they can name drop someone and use their image without that person’s permission? not to mention OR is backed by disney and they don’t play about people making money off the likeness of their artists/ characters so unfortunately I won’t be suprised if this ends in a lawsuit

Give a medal to the guy/girl that came up with the idea of making such a MV and especially with that title. They've wasted money, time and rosources.
