FIFTY FIFTY has been the latest buzz in the K-pop world and has been making waves, setting a new record by becoming the fast K-pop act to land on the Billboard HOT 100 ranking with their track "Cupid."
For this reason, the plagiarism controversy is bringing much shock.
On April 27, Turkish singer Evrencan Gündüz took to social media to claim that FIFTY FIFTY's "Cupid" is similar to his song "Sen Aşkımızdan," which was released four years ago.
He posted a video on social media saying, "Fifty Fifty released a great song. Let's listen together." The Turkish singer first played the K-pop track and then continued to play his song. Evrencan Gündüz claimed that the producer of "Cupid" had plagiarized his song without giving the proper credit or recognition to the original track. His video quickly spread online, and many online users were able to compare the two songs.
One Twitter user stated that both songs have a similar chord progression and melody to Jim James' song "Exploding," which was released ten years ago.
In response to the latest allegations, FIFTY FIFTY's agency, ATTRAKT, stated they are currently trying to confirm the facts with the song's producer, who lives overseas. The agency stated that they will release an official statement in the near future.
