On March 3, Starship Entertainment confirmed that 8 of the 13 Cosmic Girls members have decided to renew their contracts with the label. On this day, Starship Entertainment assured fans that the group will continue to promote together and also individually in the future.
Members Exy, Seola, Bona, Soobin, Eunseo, Yeoreum, Dayoung, and Yeonjung have renewed their contracts while members Luda, Dawon, Xuanyi, Cheng Xiao, and Meiqi have decided to part ways with the company.
The agency explained, "Unfortunately, our exclusive contracts with the two members have come to an end. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Luda and Dawon for the strength and efforts that they showed throughout their promotions. Starship respects the decisions of Luda and Dawon and offers them support and encouragement in their new paths."
As for the three members part of Yuehua Entertainment, Starship Entertainment explained, "We notify that the team contracts of Cosmic Girls members Xuanyi, Cheng Xiao, and Meiqi, Yuehua Entertainment artists who promoted as Cosmic Girls with the other members and with the agency, have also come to an end. Please send your warm cheers and encouragements to all members of Cosmic Girls, who are each beginning a new chapter in their journeys."
After the news that 8 Cosmic Girl members renewed their contracts and decided to continue promoting as a group, many K-netizens and K-pop fans were pleasantly surprised. More so because there have not been many updates on the girl group, causing fan frustration.
Although many were happy to hear the news of Cosmic Girls' contract renewals, many were sad to see Luda and Dawon depart from the group. They commented, "I'm happy to hear that most of the members are going to stay, but why did Dawon leave?" "Luda left?" "I hope Luda and Dawon are happy," "I never imagined Luda wouldn't continue," "I liked Luda the best from Cosmic Girls. This is so sad," "What's going to happen to the vocal line if Dawon leaves?" and "Luda!!??"
So two out of ten left. The three Chinese members left years ago.
