Many fans have been excited about this year's year-end award ceremonies in the K-pop industry since it is the first in-person event that will be taking place since COVID-19. With travel restrictions being lifted and mask mandates becoming lax, K-pop fans from around the world - especially ones in South Korea - were excited to attend these events.
Unfortunately, many major award ceremonies have been scheduled to take place overseas, bringing disappointment to fans in Korea.
On November 14, it was announced that the 37th Golden Disc Awards will take place in Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on January 7, 2023.
Along with the Golden Disc Awards, the Mnet Asian Music Awards is scheduled to be held at the end of this month in Osaka, Japan, and the Asia Artists Awards is also scheduled to be held in Japan on December 13.
With the news that already three major K-pop award shows are scheduled to take place abroad, Korean fans gathered together to share their disappointment. They commented, "Man, it's in Bangkok," "Why can't they have it in Korea," "Please have these events in Korea," "Did they usually have it abroad?" "Why do they not have these shows in Korea?" "Bangkok? All of a sudden?" "I can understand MAMA being overseas, but why the Golden Disc Awards?" "If it's award shows for K-pop have it in Korea," "It's Korean-pop as far as I know, why do they keep having these events outside of Korea?" "I guess they're having all the award shows overseas," "Why do they always have these award shows overseas? It's K-pop but it feels like they have the ceremony everywhere except Korea," and "It's K-pop but I always feel that Korea is always left out, lol."
