NewJeans' recent performance is gaining attention for an unexpected reason.

On October 8 KST, a Korean online community shared a screen capture of the members during their '2022 The Fact Music Awards' performance, writing, "A photo of NewJeans' The Fact Music Awards stage wardrobe, which received negative reactions in real-time." The photo showed the members posing with mix-and-match style outfits, combining different patterns and colors to create a playful 90s-inspired look.

Comments left on the post included, "It feels like [Korean animation] 'Secret Jouju' ㅋㅋㅋ They usually receive tons of compliments saying they wear fashion well, so what's going on?," "Durian, cherry, kiwi, peach milk, blueberry clothes?," "Why are they wearing flower-patterned grandma pants?," "Looks like clothes that were made from kids' doodles," "Remove this coordi. Putting this kind of clothing on these fresh vibe kids? Only a group like 2NE1 would be able to pull this off," "It would be completely oblivious to dress them in something like that and expect a good response," and "No way... Coordi, what is this? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ."

However, other netizens defended the members' fashion, responding with, "Huh? It's weird to be this bothered by it. Haven't idols always worn unusual clothes like this pretty often? These responses are an overreaction," "[It reminds me of] Baby VOX," "Honestly, it just seems like something NCT wears," and "But they look pretty," "Ah, this is funny, but it also looks kind of hip, right? ㅋ."

Meanwhile, not only did NewJeans perform their singles "Hype Boy" and "Attention" at the award show, they also received the 'Next Leader' award alongside fellow rookies LE SSERAFIM and IVE.
