Jimin's explosive popularity, particularly in India, has been a hot topic for years. This has been proven repeatedly based on different factors ranging from mentions in the country's local media outlets and by local celebrities, the popularity of his solo music on the country's largest and most popular music streaming platforms, and the extensive fan support that he enjoys, to mention a few. His unparalleled impact on the country has earned him the title of 'Prince of India,' and he continues to live by this title as more cases demonstrate his rising influence.
One such instance occurred recently when Jimin was on the Weverse community platform to interact with fans. One ARMY recommended that he try eating 'Biriyani,' to which Jimin responded, "It's Indian food."
The fact that Jimin not only knew 'Biryani' but also knew that it was an Indian dish absolutely sent fans over the moon with excitement, particularly the Indian fans. It is always thrilling when fans can feel closer to their beloved idols in any way possible, and in this case, the Indian fans were blown away by Jimin knowing something about them and their culture.
As expected, 'Jimin' and 'Biryani' immediately took over social media trends as fans expressed their excitement. There were entries in Twitter trends in countries such as India and Pakistan, among other regions worldwide. Here are some reactions by fans to this occurrence, with some comments such as "Love how biryani is trending because of Jimin, it is definitely a win for us desis (Indians)," "wondered why biryani is trending...turns out one of my favorite dishes is known to THEE Park Jimin", "biryani is trending because Jimin knows it" and many other comments of enthusiasm and pride.
Shortly later, media outlets began publishing articles on the event, many of them being media outlets from India. Publications were made by outlets like Latestly, CNNNEWS18, IWMBUZZZ, Bollywood TV, Zoom TV, Bollywood Life, The Rightmag, India.com, Saksi post, Daily Hindustannews, CNNIlands, OpIndia, and many other outlets, including international media outlets from other countries like the US, Canada, and France among others.
One fan made a video about this and posted it on YouTube [the above-posted video], and one comment on the video especially stood out.
This user commented that she works in an online grocery store at Walmart and has recently noticed a sharp increase in orders for a box mix to make biriyani and later came to know the reason behind it. She was thrilled and glad that because of Jimin, not only had she learned of a new dish from a different culture, but she also got an overwhelming number of new customers [read her narration below]. Jimin's brand power was at play once again!
Aside from the 'biryani incident,' Jimin has previously demonstrated his popularity in India such as through the fact that he is the most streamed BTS member on Gaana and Jio Saavn, which happen to be two of India's largest and most popular music streaming platforms.
'Filter' is also the most liked and downloaded Korean solo song on Gaana and the only solo song in BTS' top 10 most popular tracks on the platform!
In addition, his hashtag #JIMIN ranked among the Top 10 most used global entertainment hashtags on Twitter in India in 2019, being the only solo Kpop act among the Top 10 hashtags, further showing how popular he is in the country.
Back in 2020, this same effect was seen during his mention of 'biriyani' was seen when he said that he had watched 'The Three Idiots,' which ranks as one of the Top Indian films. Similarly, he took over Twitter and Netflix trends in India and even received a 'thank you' from the film's production company.
First Post, one of India's leading media outlets, also previously mentioned that Jimin leads the popularity of his group (BTS) and K-pop in general in India during one of its publications on the 2019 BTS World Tour Theatre live broadcast.
There is no doubt that Jimin is indeed the 'Prince of India.'
Our King, we love you Jimin!
