According to Nielsen Korea on June 2, the first episode of tvN's new Wed-Thurs drama 'Eve', which aired on June 1, recorded an average viewership rating of 3.6%, as well as a citywide viewership rating of 3.3%.
Signaling actress Seo Ye Ji's first returning project after her gaslighting scandal, 'Eve' tells the story of a woman who devotes her life to revenge. The first episode of the series aired on June 1 with a one-time rating of 19+, as it involved an intercourse scene between Lee Rael (played by Seo Ye Ji) and her husband Jang Jin Wook (played by Lee Ha Yool).
In fact, the appearance of a 19+ rated intercourse scene in a drama series that would otherwise be rated age 15+ is now being met with mixed reactions from netizens.
Some particularly criticized the setup of the scene, as Lee Rael and Jang Jin Wook were shown having intercourse backstage right after performing at an event for the families of new kindergartners.
Others argued that the scene seemed "adequate" in reflecting the theme of the drama as well as for the advancement of the story's plot.
Some netizens commented,
"An intercourse scene in a TV drama? This might get flagged soon."
"It was too cheesy. I turned it off."
"Setting aside the fact that it had such a 19+ rated scene, the production of the scene was just so awkward."
"I feel like this is the first time I've seen this type of production in a Korean TV drama."
"The acting was weird. Only Park Byung Eun pulled off his role as the peeper well."
"Why did Seo Ye Ji choose this project? She should have waited a little longer and then returned with a better one."
"The scene wants to be 19+ so bad, but the actors can't pull it off kekekekeke."
"Seo Ye Ji is supposed to be an irresistible character who approaches Park Byung Eun with an agenda. That's the whole point of the scene."
"For the sake of the plot, it wasn't entirely a useless scene."
LOL do these people think kindergarten teachers don't go home and do what they need to do? What does your day job have to do with this?
