It is only natural to get excited and want to take photos of celebrities when encountering them on the streets. Especially for fans, it is one of the greatest wishes to see their beloved idols in person.
Lucky for those living in Korea, there are many instances when ordinary citizens are able to come across celebrities such as idols and actors who are taking a break from their promotions. Many online community posts are sharing the stories of these encounters, and many of these citizens become fans after seeing these celebrities in person because of the celebrities' kind attitudes.
However, there is a male idol who is under fire for telling his fans not to take photos and telling them not to act as they know him. The Boyz member Q recently had a live broadcast and told his fans not to take photos of him and act as they know him during the long-term vacation during the month of February because he feels very uncomfortable when his fans do that.
Many netizens and fans criticized that Q should be thankful that fans recognize him in public and show their support for him as he is not as well known. Many of these fans pointed out that he seems to think he has the popularity level of BTS and copied their recent announcement from Big Hit Music.
After finishing their world tour, BTS entered their long-term break as well, and the members are currently resting as they are enjoying their individual time. Before the break, Big Hit Music released a statement asking fans to refrain from taking photos of the BTS members or talking to them when encountering them in public as the members are enjoying their break purely as individual beings. Therefore, the agency asked the fans for their consideration and allow the members to take a break without any distractions.
However, The Boyz's member Q, who is starting to gain recognition from Korean fans through the group's appearance on the Mnet competition show 'Kingdom,' had made the same statement to his fans. Many fans and netizens were discomforted by his statement and commented, "The idols who treat their fans well last a long time," "Wasn't he the guy who was seen drinking with Nancy before?" "If I was an unknown idol, I would be happy if people recognized me," "Who is this guy?," "If I was a celebrity, I would be so happy that my fans act as they know me in public," "I never knew this guy and he's acting like he's BTS or something," "I'm glad I'm not a fan of him," "That's so rude to say to his fans," "He should be thankful that fans are taking photos of him and acting as they know him," and "I saw him for the first time when I saw him on 'Knowing Bros' in the male idol special."
pretty sure this is more of a shout out to his sasaengs to leave him the fk alone. Personally, I don't see the issue of fans simply saying hi but as a human being no one wants to be secretly photographed and stalked like an animal.
