Happy Hobi Day: BTS's J-Hope and His Best Solo Songs

AKP STAFF

It’s the 18th of February in Korea, which means it is officially “J-Hope Day.” Dance leader and rapper of BTS, Jung Hoseok, aka Hobi/J-hope, turns 28 this year. To celebrate this day, why don’t we get into some of his best solo works.

Hobi released his first mixtape, “Hope World,” in 2018 and blessed the fans with many amazing songs. He also has solo releases under Bangtan’s albums. You are going to get a super-fun playlist with his songs. So, let’s get into it. Here are some of the best solo tracks by Jhope that you must listen to.

“BOY MEETS EVIL” (WINGS)

Intro to the band’s WINGS album, ‘Boy Meets Evil’ is one of his best works. The song and its music video are both considered a masterpiece. The choreography is intricate, but he manages to nail it. With two very different solo songs in the same album, Jhope impressed everyone.

“1 VERSE” (SOLO SONG)

'1 Verse' was sampled from the 2015 track ‘El Chapo’ by The Game and Skrillex. The song is Jhope’s response to the haters. He uses many proverbs in the lyrics and disses the naysayers with his talent. He modulates his voice as per the lyrical requirement for better impact.

“JUST DANCE” (LOVE YOURSELF: ANSWER)

A song about dance by Jung Hoseok is only complete with some epic choreography. The entire stadium echoed Jhope’s name when he performed this song. He sings about his passion for dance and compares it to having found true love. It’s like fate.

“MAMA” (WINGS)

This is his second solo song on the album. Boy Meets Evil was the concept trailer, the intro to WINGS, while 'MAMA' is his solo track. He dedicates this song to his mother. A message of gratitude to the person who took care of him and made him the man he is today.

“AIRPLANE” (HOPE WORLD)

The mixtape makes an amazing playlist in itself. All the songs are meaningful and personal, but Airplane hits different. It tells the story of a young man from Gwangju who dreamt of flying in an airplane, one day. A metaphor for achieving his dreams.

“CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP” (FT. BECKY G)

Jhope and Becky G collaborated on this remake version of the hit 2006 song by Webstar and Young B. They personalized the song by writing their own verses. Both singing in their native languages that is Korean and Spanish, makes the song and its meaning more powerful.

“OUTRO: EGO” (MAP OF THE SOUL: 7)

It sounds like a cheerful track with funky beats, but the lyrics are a complete reverse. He questions - why all the struggle, the hardship? But all this anguish was leading up to this. He worked relentlessly to become everyone’s HOPE, and now the road ahead is not too difficult.

Happy Birthday, J-Hope!
