The drama 'Young Lady and Gentleman' is receiving criticism regarding the violence portrayed in the drama. The latest episode has been subject to heavy criticism as it showed a daughter being locked up in a room by her father because he was against her dating.
In the episode of the KBS2 drama 'Young Lady and Gentleman' that aired on January 30, Park Dan Dan (played by Lee Se Hee) began dating Lee Young Kook (played by Ji Hyun Woo). However, Park Soo Cheol (played by Lee Jong Won), Park Dan Dan's father, was against his daughter's relationship with Lee Young Kook and decided to take measures.
The reason Park Soo Cheol was against his daughter dating Lee Young Kook was because he is 14 years older than her and was a single dad with three children.
In this episode, Park Soo Cheol is seen violently grabbing his daughter, Park Dan Dan, and throwing her in her room, even putting a lock on the door. He even stressed to his family that they must not open the door for her. Park Soo Cheol's wife protested, "Is this the Chosun era? Would locking her in a room solve anything?"
Despite the protests from the family, the confinement continued until the next day as Park Soo Cheol explained, "She won't listen if I just say it in words." During breakfast time, Park Soo Cheol exclaimed, "Don't even give her food. She will say she will break up with him if she gets hungry."
After hearing the news that Park Dan Dan has been locked up, Lee Young Kook's children were shocked and seen crying out loud. This latest scene caused many viewers to be uncomfortable, drawing various criticisms. Many viewers criticize that the scene is upsetting and pointed out the archaic portrayal of domestic violence.
Meanwhile, over at Netflix, they show people being murdered in "Squid Game", a high school girl being forced out of her clothes in "All Of US Are Dead" and a young woman being pummeled to the ground by a group of guys in "My Name" but no one seems to care about that.
