BTS' Jimin receives attention from many famous CEOs for his brand power, the latest being the "Korean Bill Gates," Lee Chan-Jin
Jimin is an accomplished artist both in music in dance. Various artists and music critics have praised his vocal color and tone. Rookie idols constantly cover his solo song performances such as 'Lie' and 'Serendipity,' to prove their performance capabilities since Jimin's performances are considered the benchmark in the industry.
However, his influence does not stop there. Jimin is considered the top brand ambassador based on brand reputation rankings. He has ranked first in the individual boy group member ranking for 33 months straight and 35 months total as of September 2021. He was also the first male idol to rank first in Gallup Survey for 'Korea's most preferred idol' in 2018, extending his reign to 2019 and becoming the first and only male idol to rank first for two consecutive years. Moreover, data collected from google trends as of August 2021 shows that he was the most searched BTS member in the past year and the past five years, in the news category and the celebrity and entertainment category. Therefore, Jimin's popularity is unrivaled.
With his popularity comes his immense brand power. The data from brand reputation, Gallup survey, and google trends has been proven accurate time and again as he has caused various items to sell out in record time, irrespective of the items' pricing or type. Recently, he caused two shirts to sell out, one of which he wore in 'IN THE SOOP' BTS ver. Season 2 promotional photos and another that he wore in the recent interview with Chris Martin on #RELEASEDOnYT. The entire outfit that he wore in the '3J Butter special performance' video also got sold out instantly. In addition, the t-shirt that he wore for the announcement of IN THE SOOP season 2, and the robe that he wore in RUN BTS episode 150, also got sold out immediately. The recently released FILA' dynamite basketball hoodie' also got sold out in under two hours, the first out of all the members, and his Louis Vuitton bag, watch, and shoes that he wore at the airport while heading to the US for the #UNGA also got sold out on various websites and in different countries.
This is why most CEOs have their eyes set on him and keep up with any news related to him. On September 14, a Jimin fan, @NoAbsNoLife, made a Twitter space about Jimin's birthday. As fans joined in, they noticed that Lee Chan-Jin had also joined the space. Lee Chan-Jin is one of the most famous and successful CEOs in South Korea, having established several companies in the Information Technology field and also made the Korean version of the word processor. His success and impact in the field are recognized by the entire country, so much so that he has become popularly known as 'The Korean Bill Gates.' For him to join in this discussion was a big thing and spoke volumes to the status that Jimin holds.
Specifically, the CEO mentions that he had read about Jimin's grand birthday project by his Chinese fanbase, @JIMINBAR_CHINA. The project involves a customized exclusive airplane in collaboration with Jeju Air, where the entire plane is painted with images of Jimin and Jimin-themed in-flight cups and flight tickets with Jimin's face printed on them, lasting for three months. A man of his caliber taking the time to read up on the news involving Jimin and joining in on discussions about his birthday by fans is a seal of approval for Jimin from him and those of his class.
In the same twitter space, another heavyweight in the corporate world, Kim YeonJeong, also made an appearance. Kim YeonJeong is Twitter's Head of Global K-pop and K-content Partnerships. The two figures touched on the topic of Jimin's hashtag #JIMIN no longer trending on Twitter, along with his name JIMIN. It all came down to the name and tag not fitting into a word that has not been mentioned before, suddenly getting lots of mentions, in order to appear in the trends as per twitter's algorithm. Jimin gets lost in mentions at any given time, and therefore does not fit into this description. This explanation further proves Jimin's popularity on the internet as well, in that people are always mentioning him at any given time.
Previously, another CEO mentioned Jimin due to his impact on the sales of one of his company's products. Lee Ju Young, the SJ Group CEO, discussed Jimin's love for the 'Kangol bell hat' during a conference. He mentioned how Jimin's interest in the hat had influenced a spike in the hat's sales. The CEO acknowledging Jimin's impact on the market performance of his brand is another nod to Jimin's brand power.
In a different incident, another CEO, Kim Tak-Soon, expressed his enthusiasm in being able to promote his company through Jimin, who is known to have a tremendous positive influence. Kim Tak-Soon is the CEO of a rice farm that is the location for 'Jimin's Paddy Field,' a rice project started by his fans to promote his positive influence. It is also the first rice project of its kind for a Korean celebrity.
Jimin's influence is so widespread, and many businessmen and CEOs have specifically mentioned him, which has led to him being considered among some of the most powerful people in the country. In fact, Korean media listed him among the 200 most powerful people in 2019. In the same year, Jimin was included in #BoF500 as a 'model and muse.' This saw his status elevated to rank among the most influential people in the world, who shaped the global fashion industry.
GQ magazine, a US men's fashion magazine, has also listed him among the best-dressed men compilation. Various professionals in different industries have expressed their interest in working with him. For instance, Gus Van Sant, an American film director, producer, photographer, and musician, has expressed his interest in working with Jimin, and one of the biggest luxury fashion brands, SAINTLAURENT, requested to have Jimin's picture for their headquarters in Paris and Asia, for non-commercial purposes. Moreover, recently, Fashionbiz, a leading Korean fashion magazine, named Jimin as the decisive factor behind the signing of BTS by Louis Vuitton, the number one luxury fashion brand in the world according to global fashion industry statistics as global brand ambassadors.
Lee K. has made various pieces of art that he has displayed in various exhibitions, using Jimin as his muse. Other artists like Jin Young-Sun and Goheon Kim Ho-Sung, have also derived inspiration from Jimin's performances to paint various works that have also been displayed in exhibitions.
RollingStone US, along with SEVENTEEN, a famous American magazine, has also highlighted that Jimin is the reason most people join the BTS fandom, ever since his debut in the group. He is considered an absolute favorite by many fans, and a look at his solo power and ability reveals that his talent on top of talent has really increased his value.
In addition, on September 20, Jimin was also featured on Japanese TV during the reporting of BTS's profits. When the topic of stock listing arose, only Jimin was shown on screen for a record 16 seconds.
