Actor Jung Woo Sung, who has been a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, donated 100 million KRW (~$85,780) for the emergency aid of Afghanistan refugees.
On September 8th, the Korean representative of the U.N. Refugee Organization said, "Actor Jung Woo Sung, a goodwill ambassador, delivered 100 million KRW in donations to aid Afghans who are threatened by violence and terrorism."
Jung Woo Sung stated, "I hope it will contribute not only to the numerous Afghans who have lost their homes and are in a dark period due to the recent incident but also to the U.N. refugee organization working to aid them."
He also stressed, "It is time for the global community to pay attention to the Afghan crisis," adding, "We should listen to the desperation of those who cannot even escape from their own country despite various risks and tragic situations."
According to the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, more than 590,000 people have lost their homes this year alone due to the recent events in Afghanistan, and 18 million people, nearly half of the Afghan population, need emergency support.
In addition, at least $299 million is reportedly needed for the activities of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and cooperative organizations for humanitarian aid in Afghanistan.
Jung Woo Sung began as an honorary envoy to the UN Refugee Organization in 2014 and has been working as a goodwill ambassador since the following year.
Actors and celebrities around the world should do the same. All my respect for him 🙏
