'Minari' has won Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language' at the '2021 Golden Globe Awards'.
There is ongoing controversy around rather a film about being in America, produced by an American director, and made in America, should be considered a 'foreign language' film because the actors speak Korean in their dialogue. However, controversy aside, the much-celebrated film has won 'Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language' at the 2021 Golden Globe Awards in a move that surprised no one.
Minari is a 2020 American drama film written and directed by Lee Isaac Chung. It features Steven Yeun, Han Ye Ri, Alan Kim, Noel Kate Cho, Yoon Yeo Jung, and Will Patton. The movie follows a family of South Korean immigrants who try to make it in rural America during the 1980s.
Congratulations to 'Minari'!
As a 3rd generation Korean-American, I thought this movie was incredible, but I think it really touched my parents more, since it was about their generation. Great to see more Asian representation in the West, even if we are still considered foreigners.
