On February 27, SBS ‘Law of the Jungle: Pioneers’ continued its story where Kim Byung Man, Jang Hyuk, Shin Seung Hwan, Choi Sung Min, Park Goon, SHINee’s Minho, and Kang Daniel challenged surviving in an abandoned village.
According to Nielsen Korea, a ratings research institute, this episode’s ratings rose 1.1% from last week to 8.1% and achieved the highest viewership in its time slot and was also the most-watched entertainment show on Saturday.
The minute with the highest ratings went to a scene with Kang Daniel and Park Goon, a pair whose camaraderie had been developing since the episode before.
Kang Daniel and Park Goon had been paired together due to the trot singer’s extensive knowledge in edible plants, which he had developed from his time in the military, and which was necessary to find food for Daniel due to Daniel’s allergy to shellfish.
While the two had successfully foraged some vegetables, they were unsatisfied with the amount of food, and decided to challenge a 50-meter cliff descent to reach sea cucumbers.
Before setting off, Park Goon tied his scarf around Daniel’s face to shield him from the cold. As Daniel appeared nervous while preparing for the descent, Park Goon, who had experience with rappelling from his time as a sergeant in the Special Forces, reassured Daniel, "Don't worry, this is also used to transport patients. Just trust me and follow."
As they rappelled, Park Goon complimented Daniel, “It’s your first time and you’re really good. I was a chicken when I first started!” In the midst of it, Daniel’s hoodie string became stuck in his safety equipment, but Park Goon calmly helped Daniel and the two arrived safely.
The scene earned a rating of 9.4%, the highest rating of the episode according to the 2049 Target Audience Rating.
Kang Daniel exclaimed, "Wasn't that a big step for a homebody?"In a post-interview, he expressed his gratitude towards Park Goon, "The more I got to know him, the more I realized how amazing he was. He knew everything. Thank you for making precious memories. I really laughed a lot."
In the next episode, the cast will challenge the evening’s -20°C temperatures. Check out the English-subbed episode on Viu.
I saw this episode. I was really impressed by how well he took care of Kang Daniel who really seemed out of his element. Park Goon was like a caring older brother and his survival skills and knowledge are really impressive. Kudos to Kang Daniel for being brave enough to do so many things for the first time, including rappelling down a cliff. Having Park Goon by his side was probably really reassuring.
