The meaning of Eddy Kim's original song title for "The Manual" has regained spotlight.
According to various media outlets, the singer had revealed back in 2014 that the title of his self-produced song "The Manual" was originally "Women Manual". Before releasing the song, Yoon Jong Shin, his boss as the head of Mystic Entertainment, had strongly recommended him to change the title.
The singer-songwriter had then stated in his own words: "my agency's CEO Yoon Jong Shin told me, 'the song is really good, but if you debut with this title, then it will be marked as 19+ (unfit for public television broadcast)".
After reports revealed that Eddy Kim was a member of Jung Joon Young's controversial chatroom, netizens are now criticizing the singer for the inappropriate nature of the song title that "verges on misogyny." Regarding the controversy, the singer-songwriter has admitted to his inclusion in the chatroom but denied sharing inappropriate content.
Other netizen comments include: "the title literally is about objectifying women -- on how to 'use women'", "I used to like the song because of its subtlety, but now I can't even listen without thinking about the original title".
What do you think about the controversy?
I'm pretty sure this is one of those common songs men write about how to be good to your gf/wife/etc.
