Every K-pop fan knows the Big 3: YG Entertainment, SM Entertainment, and JYP Entertainment. But they're not the only ones working hard to produce talented idol stars. In fact, there are smaller agencies that managed to bring much success. Here are stars of small agencies that proved talent is better than size.
1) BTS and Big Hit
When they first started up, Big Hit Entertainment was one of the smallest agencies in Korea. They had little money and no recognition as an agency. That is until BTS started getting popular internationally starting with "Dope". Since then, Big Hit has become one of the biggest agencies. With investments coming in, their valuation is higher than the market capitalization of the Big 3 companies.
2) IU and Loen Entertainment
IU had a difficult debut, but in 2007 when she released "Good Day," she gained worldwide popularity for herself. She quickly became a star and the 'Nation's Little Sister,' as well as gaining traction for Loen Entertainment. To thank her, Loen Entertainment (now Kakao M) actually gave her a whole floor of the building for her personal usage!
3) Kim Chung Ha and MNH Entertainment
Following her success in IOI, Kim Chung Ha made her agency known and have grown as MNH's only solo singer.
4) GFriend and Source Music
Since their debut in 2015, GFriend quickly rose to become one of the most popular rookie groups gaining love and attention for themselves as well as promoting their small label. Despite being from a small label they were able to win 15 music show awards with "Rough."
5) INFINITE and Woollim Entertainment
Before INFINITE, Woollim was a struggling business but as INFINITE has grown in popularity and fame, Woollim also grew to become one of the tops in the entertainment industry.
6) MAMAMOO and RBW
Undoubtedly one of the most popular artists to date, MAMAMOO really came for the crown when they debut in 2014. Coming from a small agency, you would think they couldn't get far in terms of money and production but MAMAMOO really took advantage of their talent and wonderful personalities to make their company grow in popularity and success.
7) Girl's Day and Dream T Entertainment
Girl's Day had real humble beginnings but after years of hard work, they became one of the top girl groups in K-pop. Unfortunately, they recently parted ways with Dream T Entertainment but they were the brightest stars for the company.
