Ahn Min Seok of The Democratic Party wants BTS to perform in North Korea.
On January 8, Ahn stated to Yonhap News, "I am planning to have BTS perform at 'The Rungrado 1st of May Stadium' in September in celebration of Pyongyang Joint Declaration's 1st anniversary."
Ahn explained the motive behind BTS' performance is to share K-pop culture with the citizens of Pyongyang. According to Ahn, the event could be a solo concert by BTS or a concert with multiple artists. "I will get other South Korean singers if BTS cannot participate," said Ahn.
Ahn revealed he has reached out to Big Hit Entertainment about the event near the end of 2018 and asked if BTS can adjust their schedule. Regarding this, Big Hit Entertainment shared a brief official statement on January 9.
The agency commented, "We have nothing to say about the concert yet."
I don't think N.Korea has really done much in order to denuclearize themselves. It still remains a very troubled country, ruled over by an insane family of dictators.
Let's say that they will just perform for the people there, lots of which are gonna be from privileged military backgrounds that God knows what sort of crimes they've committed. I doubt they'll be any cheerful or be allowed to even sing along regardless of how popular BTS might be (according to some defectors).
The biggest issue tho, KJU will surely wish to meet them and have a picture taken or something. It would feel so wrong to see BTS bow down or be all smiles in his presence. At the end of the day though, no musician will be able to bring peace and instill sense to insane people. Whatever happens though, it's not as tragic as people make it out to be. So many Kpop artists went there last year and faced no scrutiny.
