8 Idols set to become adults in 2019

AKP STAFF

In Korea, "turning of age" or becoming adults is a bit different than in the states or other countries. In fact, in Korean culture, from the moment you are born, you are considered 1 years old. When you reach age 19, you are legally considered an adult in Korea, which is essentially akin to the 18-year-old adulthood status in the US. And as always, a new year means a new generation of adults. Here are some K-pop idols to legally turn of age this year:

1. Bae Jin Young

It's difficult to believe that Jin Young was born in the year 2000. In fact, it's difficult to believe anyone has been born in the year 2000. Jinyoung is set to turn 19 years old officially in May.

2. The Boyz Sunwoo

Since the awesome Charli XCX cover, The Boyz has been on everyone's radar as a very possible hit group this year. Sunwoo, in particular, is set to turn 19 years old officially in April.

3. NCT Haechan

Haechan took a leave on injury from NCT at the end of 2018, so we hope to see him alive, well and  kicking in his first year as an adult in the industry. Haechan is set to turn 19 years old officially in June.

4.  SF9 Chanhee

Also known by his stage name, Chanhi, Chanhee has been in the industry since childhood. In fact, he began his debut as the 'mini Yoochun' in TVXQ's iconic music video for "Balloons". Chanhee is set to turn 19 years old officially on January 17th.

5. April Rachel

Rachel was a fan of April prior to joining the group and spent some time in the states. There was buzz when she finally turned 18 last year, but netizens will be happy to know she finally turns the official Korean adult age this year in August.

6. Hyeyeon

Hyeyeon officially announced her departure from Gugudan at the end of 2018. In order to focus on both her studies and health, Hyeyeon will focus on herself over the course of 2019. We are excited to see her possibly shine and debut on her own if health permits it. She will become of age this year in early August.

7. LOONA Hyunjin

Hyunjin officially debuted with LOONA and her teaser dropped in 2016. It's been a long time coming and Hyunjin finally turns of age in November of this year. Given LOONA's widespread success, we're excited to see what's in store for this young idol over the course of this year.

8. Stray Kids Han

Han is another idol to watch over the course of 2019 as his popularity (as well as Stray Kids) has begun to snowball into something bigger. It'll be interesting to see where the group goes over the course of this year. Han, who is a Virgo, will be set to turn 19 in September.
