Starting on October 22, Korea's Defense Media Agency collected the votes of 430 military personnel, asking which celebrity they felt would be most suitable to work as a military life counselor, which requires being able to listen well to the everyday concerns of military individuals while providing psychological support and education.

The report, which was published on November 25 through the Defense Media Agency's military publication, revealed that IU won with 62 votes (14.4%). According to the publication, IU was chosen because she was able to overcome hardships at a young age and become a top artist. The idol was also cited for her work ethic and unwavering spirit, with soldiers saying she would be likely to relate to them well and warmly embrace their concerns like an older sister figure.
Following IU on the list was the 'Nation's MC' Yoo Jae Suk with 48 votes (11.1%), Red Velvet's Irene with 40 votes (9.3%), actress Park Bo Young with 32 votes (7.4%), and Psy with 27 votes (6.3%).
