INFINITE's Sungjong was instated as the new DJ of 'Midnight Black' back on August 27. In order to welcome him to the new DJ position, 'Midnight Black' carried out a call for entries to decide on Sungjong's DJ nickname. The ultimate winning nickname was 'Jjong-D'.
However, numerous fans of the late SHINee's Jonghyun immediately noted that 'Jjong-D' was the nicknamed used by Jonghyun for approximately 3 years while the late idol DJ-ed for MBC radio show, 'Blue Night'. Fans began flooding the request board on 'Midnight Black's website, asking that Sungjong's DJ nickname be changed.
As a result, the main PD of 'Midnight Black' stepped up to apologize to all involved. He said, "We received so much response regarding the new DJ nickname. First and foremost, I do not feel at ease knowing that I hurt the hearts of 'Blue Night' listeners. Also, I am truly thankful to the listeners who submitted well-worded, mannerly requests. I understand perfectly what you may be feeling."
The PD continued, "The nickname was chosen based on text message votes received during the new DJ's welcome week. However, after discussing the matter with the staff, we will be changing it and will reveal a new nickname next week through our homepage."
Meanwhile, Sungjong's 'Midnight Black' airs every Mon-Sat from 12 PM - 1 AM KST.
