The changes in Lee Joon's mandatory service was met with heavy criticism from the public, as many accused the idol of receiving special treatment in the military for "easier" service.
In response to the accusations, a rep of the Republic of Korea Army stated to Sports Chosun, "It is absolutely not a special treatment. It was processed through proper steps and examination. It is inappropriate for us to reveal the details as it's related to private information, however, we can clearly say that there was no special treatment whatsoever. The decision was made after examination by a medical expert."
The rep emphasized that Lee Joon's transfer was processed through proper procedures just like any other soldier with a health issue.
Despite the explanation from the Republic of Korea Army, netizens are continuing to criticize Lee Joon, commenting, "If his panic disorder is that bad then I guess he can no longer promote as a celebrity. If he promotes again then that's cheating", "Celebrity= disabled", "But he's okay when he's in promotions", "I'm not buying that explanation", "Celebrities always get transferred..."
