On a documentary special titled 'Birth of a Rap Star' that aired Monday on MBC, Block B's Zico claimed that he "never once thought of Block B as a hip hop idol group."�

When the production crew asked the rapper, "Is Block B a hip hop group?" Zico had answered thus, explaining, "That's just the way our label promoted us."�
Further, on the heavy, smoky makeup he is forced to wear, Zico said, "[The listeners] could feel repulsed. We are telling our stories and have to showcase a manly side so [the makeup] could be turnoff."
The rapper also addressed a portion of the public's opinion on him with, "If it were me, I would have felt betrayed too. A rookie who declared that he would do hip hop music showed such a side of him, so they could be disappointed."
