A father who kicked his five year old daughter to death for spilling bread crumbs was sentenced to two years and six months in prison.
On January 18, Daegu District Court sentenced 34-year-old Shin to two years and six months in prison and the compulsory completion of a 40 hour-long treatment program concerning child abuse for charges of violating laws related to child welfare and abuse.
Last October, Shin had kicked his five-year-old daughter a total of three times in her stomach. The daughter, who had reportedly suffered from failing health and had trouble digesting, had set the father off into a fit of rage when she spilled bread crumbs on the floor.

The courts stated, "A guardian who should nourish his daughter instead exercised abuse and violence under the pretext of discipline, leading to an extreme result of death; hence, we had no choice but to punish [the defendant]. We have also taken into account that the defendant has admitted to his crime and is reflecting deeply on his wrongdoing, that he acted out of impulse, that the daughter's mother didn't want the defendant to be punished, and the fact that the defendant has no other criminal record," revealing their judgment on arriving at Shin's sentence.
