MURIM SCHOOL - EPISODE 4
I thought I'd give you guys something to listen to while you read:
This episode is all about friendship and how the choices we make affect who we are and who we become.
The boys escape one wolf only to find a whole pack of them. They're rescued by Sun Ah and Soon Duk, who went out to find them. Back in the countryside, Soon Duk's mother*, Bang Duk, cozies up to Chi Ang's mom and angles for a job as her maid.
* The last review incorrectly lists her as the girlfriend of Soon Duk's dad. Odd characterization and dialogue choices made it seem like this was the case. This has been retracted.
Returning from Murim Peak without the flag, they plead their case before the principal, who tells them they passed. If one of them had retrieved the flag, they would have been monsters (bad people). The fact that they helped each other was exactly what the principal wanted. Everyone except Yub Jung and one of the faculty is happy they made it.
Somewhere a man is in a coma in a hospital and he dreams of a flaming house. Agents reporting to Chi Ang's father make note that his condition is improving.
Si Woo is exonerated and loved again by fans. He could have his old life back, but realizes that he would still be a "runaway idol" if he left Murim School. Meeting up with Soon Duk, he drives her delivery scooter back to the school with her asleep behind him...
This was one of the more intense episodes. Paired with the previous one, it had everything that I want: action, intrigue, and hard choices. It's the right length, too, and the plots don't seem like they're shoehorned in. It's great that Si Woo and Chi Ang have formed a bond in spite of themselves, but as much as Chi Ang laughs it off as "trying to be cool," I think Si Woo really has found something he cares about, and will work hard to defend it.
It's a little difficult to believe the other students were happy about Si Woo and Chi Ang's success. Didn't Chi Ang act standoffish in the second episode, rebuffing an offer of friendship? On the other hand, they were rooting for them while watching them by drone, so there is that.
Despite the plot holes, this is shaping up to be a great series. I like it. To me, it's rather more accessible than other, more melodramatic offerings. The action moves at a good pace, and the acting isn't amazing, but it's not terrible either. In my opinion, every one is believable, and the characters are likable. Why netizens are trashing this, I'm not sure. Probably because the boys and girls interact normally instead of having a forced romance. If pairings come at the end or in the middle, I'll be a happy camper. Now I want to know: who is that man in the hospital, and does that fire have anything to do with Si Woo's past?
I'll keep watching if you will. See you next week!
