The daycare center is located in the city of Bucheon and the Child Protection Services reported the teacher's violent and abusive behavior. According to police investigations, the teacher's abuse would mostly occur during field trips. The teacher would feed the children bugs and when the children refused to comply, the teacher would reportedly shout, "This is good for your body so eat it!" before putting the bugs in their mouths and forcing them to close their lips.
According to testimonies, the teacher was also violent with the children and would beat them severely with a stick on the head, hands, and feet. Sometimes, the teacher would even use colored pencils, books, or any other teaching material at hand to abuse the children.
In total, the teacher abused nine children and the parents have stated, "The physical abuse happened around 15 times." They continued, "The teacher hit the children's chins with his/her fist and even lifted their faces so that they looked up [at him/her]."
The daycare center director, however, stated that he/she did not believe this was a case of child abuse. The director stated, "We told the teacher to seriously reflect, and because this is something that can happen in one's daily work, we do not think of this as abuse." The police evidently think differently as they are currently charging two teachers at the daycare center for child abuse.
Netizens have responded negatively to this incident, with comments saying, "Doing what even bugs don't do and making them eat bugs…," "What you learn about education and life in kindergarten plays a huge, important role, but if that teacher thinks he/she's teaching then how will the children who learned from him/her live in society,"
and, "You guys keep talking about kindergarten teachers, but a daycare center teacher can be a teacher without a college diploma while a kindergarten teacher can teach when they come out of college…."
