In the clip above, starting at the 1:08 mark, FNC representative Han Sung Ho recalls his first impression of Hongki. He says, "When I heard his singing, I thought that his voice was very good. But," before bursting into laughter. He continues, "At that time, he dressed up for his audition but he looked so countrified," explaining that he thought the company should take care of Hongki's visuals.
When the MC remarks, "He became a visual!" Han Sung Ho replies, "Although Hongki didn't have any plastic surgery, we [the company] changed his countrified clothes," implying that Hongki's looks were drastically upgraded with the company's help.
Hongki denies this, however, saying, "He's talking about my style, but the company never dolled me up. Today, I was my own outfit-coordinator. The company never invested in me."
At this, Han Sung Ho humorously points out Hongki's floral-patterned shorts, earning laughs as he asks, "Honestly doesn't this look like ahjumma clothes?"
At another point in the episode, Jonghyun also discussed his changed looks since his Japanese debut, saying, "I was 58 kg (approx. 128 lbs) then. I'm 75 kg (approx. 165 lbs) now," indicating that he gained a total of 17 kg (approx. 37 lbs) since then. He added, "When you see my debut [pictures] you can recognize me, but you can also see the bones of my face."
In addition to being bonier back in the day, Jonghyun also remarked that his hairstyle was different. "Back then, my hair was long. It's not that it was long, it's that I couldn't cut it," he said, possibly implying that FNC Entertainment did not have the funds to have him appear as clean-cut as he does now.
