The production company behind the successful KBS2TV drama, Baker King, Kim Tak Goo, has announced that the drama will not be extended, and will end with 30 episodes, as scheduled. Despite being relatively low budget, with minimal promotions, and no big cast names, the drama has been able to win over viewers with its captivating storyline and steady acting, becoming the biggest underdog drama in recent times. Not only has it experienced rising ratings with each new episode, culminating in it achieving a 44% rating last week, it has also left the big budget drama, Road No.1, trailing in its wake by a huge margin. The high ratings (over 40%) have also meant that it has now become a national drama. With the consistent high ratings of 40% and above, there were talks that the drama might be extended. This is because popular dramas tend to bring in more money from advertisers, and KBS would definitely want the drama to continue for a few more episodes. Many discussions regarding this had taken place in the past few weeks, but the production company has declined the offer, stating that the drama had been edited from the original 50 episodes to 30 episodes, and that was a key factor in the storyline being more compact and exciting for viewers. There was no reason to spoil the drama, or take a risk with an extension at this point, and thus the drama will end with 30 episodes on September 24th.
