Netizens expressed divided opinions after a video clip of Red Velvet's Joy was posted online.
In the video clip, Joy can be seen responding to a fan's request to sing her popular line from Red Velvet's track "Feel My Rhythm". One netizen then took to an online community to point out, "I just saw [the video] and it's so obvious she doesn't want to do it... Of course, if people keep asking her to show them then it's possible that she doesn't want to do it. But still, in the perspective of her fan, they must be super sad... If this was a male idol, it would've already been all over Twitter."
In response, some netizens commented in support of Joy:
"She did her best, but why are people going after her?"
"The fan apparently said they loved it and cried. People are only seeing parts that they want to see."
"The fan personally explained and uploaded a different video clip to ask people not to criticize [Joy], so what are you guys doing?"
"She's only getting hate because she's a female idol".
Other netizens thought Joy was rude to her fan and wrote:
"She kind of deserves to get criticized for this."
"I get that she's tired of people making the same request over and over again, but the fan probably got selected for the video call event after spending hundreds of dollars. Isn't she too much?"
"Does it make sense for her to make it so obvious that she's sick and tired of it, when she earns so much?"
"She's making it so obvious that she doesn't want to do it. This is why Red Velvet can't become top tier."
Joy has every right to be tired of constantly being asked to do certain things. She's only human. But if a fan who literally spent 100s of dollars to get this fan call asks, and it's not just a fan asking her randomly on the street or during her private time, I think she should've acted a bit more professionally and done it without acting obviously annoyed/over it. The fan might've been ok with it and defended Joy, but it's probably because she loves Joy so much and wants to see only the best in an idol she adores. Idk I've seen quite a few of these articles of idols acting annoyed or tired during fan calls; again they have the right to feel so, but they could be more professional and save expressing those feelings outwardly for when they're off the clock. To them, it's easy as just sitting there and answering video calls, but for the fans, they again literally spent $$$ to see them and I'd be disappointed if I were them and the idol I spent that money for acted annoyed with me for just being excited.
