On March 15, Super Junior members Leeteuk, Shindong, Eunhyuk, Donghae, and Siwon appeared as guests on the SBS variety program, 'Dolsing Fourmen' (literally 'Four Men Who Are Single Again').
On this day, the Super Junior members greeted the four cast members of 'Dolsing Fourmen', Kim Jun Ho, Lee Sang Min, Tak Jae Hoon, and Lim Won Hee. Lee Sang Min then looked at Leeteuk and said, "So Heechul is forty now, does that mean you're also forty, Teuk?"
Leeteuk responded, "Yes, we are the same age." Lee Sang Min then quickly commented, "You've now finally become an 'ahjusshi'." However, Leeteuk did not agree to this and said, "No, I'm still an 'oppa'. I want to draw a line between the hyungs and us. Over there are the 'ahjusshis', over here (Super Junior) are the 'oppas'."
(Note: "Oppa", literally meaning "older brother", is a Korean term used by females to refer to older males who are still considered below "middle age". "Ahjusshi" is a Korean term used to refer to males over "middle age", typically married men with children.)
The remaining Super Junior members then revealed that Eunhyuk, Donghae, and Siwon were 37-years old, while Shindong was 38-years old. The 'Dolsing' cast members said, "[Leeteuk] is in his forties now. Kim Jun Ho is also in his forties. You are an 'ahjusshi' now." Leeteuk, who seemed unconvinced, asked, "Are you an 'ahjusshi' no matter what if you're in your forties? Isn't there some kind of test?"
The men then went on to ask Leeteuk a series of "test" questions to determine whether or not he was an "ahjusshi" or an "oppa". First, Kim Jun Ho asked, "When you yawn, do you make noise?" and "When you talk to yourself, do you sing or hum a melody?"
Shindong pointed at Leeteuk and exclaimed, "He is always singing when he talks to himself!" Leeteuk, flustered, refuted, "I usually sing to my dog."
What do you think about the debate? Is Super Junior's Leeteuk an "ahjusshi", or is he still an "oppa"?
More reason why Korea needs to bring back global age. He’s 38, still an oppa in my books.
