On the May 10 airing of Mnet's 'Produce X 101,' the YG Entertainment trainees performed for the level test.
Wang Goon Ho and Hidaka Mahiro received great attention from the moment they walked into the studio for their mighty agency. With high expectations from fellow trainees, the two performed "Good Boy" by label senior GD x Taeyang.
Unfortunately, Wang and Kidaka failed to live up to the high expectations and faced harsh criticism from the trainers.
Vocal trainer Shin Yoo Mi said, "You guys tried so hard but I can't tell what you're trying to portray." Dance trainer Choi Yong Joon said, "To be honest, it's was an unclear dance that I can't evaluate. To just say it plainly, you guys didn't do well."
Another dance trainer Kwon Jae Seung commented, "Honestly, I don't think I would've known you guys were YG trainees if I didn't see the name (tags)."
Ultimately, Wang Goon Ho received 'C' rank, while Hidaka Mahiro received 'D.'
Cheetah remarked, "I think it's because we had expectations for the agency. Honestly, they're rank 'X' when just looking at the performance they prepared."
I notice that a lot of people tend to pick performances for the hype rather than to actually showcase their talents. In a Place where there are hundreds of talented kids fighting for a spot, an agency’s power just isn’t going automatically give them a spot like it might have a few years ago. Especially with all the crap going on now with yg, that name won’t mean anything unless they are actually talented enough to be noticed without that yg title. I hope they can do better in the next evaluation. I’m sure they have potential if they do what matches them personally rather than what matches the image of their company.
